United States Postal Inspection Service

The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) investigates mail fraud, including sweepstakes scams, mail theft, and mail-related identity theft. Their website provides information on these scams and a variety of other mail fraud issues.

Opt Out of Pre-Screened Credit Offers

To stop receiving pre-approved credit and insurance offers, go to, call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) or send a mail request to:

Note: You will need to give your name, address, Social Security Number, and Date of Birth to opt out. For this reason, it is better to apply online or over the phone if you are able.

Stopping Junk Mail

Remove Your Name From Direct Mail Lists To remove your name from Direct Mail Lists, send your name, address, signature, and a statement that you would like to be removed from their list to the following two organizations. (Note:You can register with the Direct Marketing Association online at the website below. If you choose to remove your name by mail, you will be required to send a $1 check or money order for processing.)
